Booktuber of the month

Hi everyone,

It is the end of October and I bring to you my lastest find for youtuber of the month.  He seems to be very up beat, which I always like in a person.  He also posts very regularly, one thing I find important when I want to look in on what a tuber has been reading.

Check out his dog.  The most adorable siberian husky.  I may just watch to see his dog!

Connor O'Brien has a good range of reviews and also incorporates variety with wind-ups, bookcase tours and the all famous unboxing.  There aren't a heap of male booktubers out there in comparison to the girls, but here we go.... Connnor he has made my choice of booktuber for the month of October.  Click the link above or watch the clip I have attached today then take a look over at the rest of his reviews.

As for booktuber nominations, if you have a favourite that you think I should check out then comment below and send me their link.  I will take a look.

Shattered Conscience

Author: Darren Sugrue
http://www.darrensugrue.com/
Release date: 30 October 2016

Hi Everyone,

I have been waiting for this book!  You can get a copy of it via Amazon next week.  You really should get yourself a copy, it is a brilliant piece of writing.   I would like to see this book on the top 10 shelves in every book store.  If you haven't found one of Darren Sugrue's novels yet, look him up.   I have read both of his books and not been able to put either one down until the last page is closed.

In this novel you will be taken to world of crime, terrorism, investigation.  I couldn't put it down without knowing that Connor was going to be removed from the prime suspect list.  Each page made it worse, as Sophie and Connor found answers.  I wanted to yell at the investigators!  How ignorant can people be when they seek answers?  I could see the dynamics from each angle and the frustration kept me turning the pages.  I wanted to know more about each character as I connected to the situation.

It didn't end the way I wanted it to.  I love this in a book.  Unpredicted outcomes makes a book realistic, more than just another read.

Truely you should read the this authors books.  I reviewed his first book 'The Prediction' and loved it.  It was a page turner too.  So I waited patiently for Darren's next novel and finally got to read another page turner that I will be recommending to all my friends.

Now I should really get some sleep!  Connor and Sophie, along with the characters in this book have kept me awake all night as I dealt with their situation.  I can now leave their world and shut my eyes, or maybe I will just contenplate the outcome of this story a little more.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - movie review

Hi Everyone,

The kids and I thought we should have a movie night last night, so off to the DVD shop we went.  We left the DVD store with "Hunt for the Wilderpeople".  This was my son's choice as he had already seen it at the movies and thought we all needed the experience.  We cooked some hokey pokey and coated it in healthy-ish homemade chocolate, then settled down to our movie night.

This movie is brillliant.  There is a bit of bad language and violence but nothing that offended me too much and I found it fine for my young teens (you make your own opinion for your own kids here).  As for funny, we laughed all the way through.  The actors were perfect for the movie.  I loved the troubled boy, who really was just a real boy.  I would have cried in a couple of scenes, but I kept it all under control.

This movie has inspired my boy to read more of Barry Crump's books.  I have no idea what the contents of these books are like so I had better get reading myself and check them out.  But anything that gets my boy inspired to read more is always a good thing.

I know Barry Crump's books use to fly off the bookshelves when I worked in the retail.  If they are anything like this movie I can see why.  There was a bit of everything in this movie.  It's a movie we all enjoyed, which is often a hard thing to achieve when you have a family of teens.

Movie trailer available on Youtube

Family movie nights are a treasure and memory builting event, so how about making some treats and grabing a DVD to enjoy together.

Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore

Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore-

No doubt you have heard the name before-

Was a boy who would never shut the door!

The wind might whistle, the wind might roar,

And teeth be aching and throats be sore,

But still he never would shut the door.

His father would beg, his mother implore,

"Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore,

We really do wish you would shut the door!"

Their hands they rung, thier hair they tore;

But Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore

Was deaf as the buoy out at the Nore

When he walked forth the folks would roar,

"Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore,

Why don't you think to shut the door?"

They rigged out a Shutter with sail and oar,

And threatened to pack off Gustavus Gore

On a voyage of penance to Singapore,

But he begged for mercy, and said, "No more!

Pray do not send me to Singapore

On a Shutter, and then I will shut the door!"

"You will?" said his parents; "then keep on shore!

But mind you do!  For the plague is sore

Of a fellow that never will shut the door,

Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore!"

Three Letters

Three Letters
Author: Josephine Cox
ISBN: 978-0-00-741998-2

This is the first time I have ever picked up a Josephine Cox book to read.  I use to work in a book shop and her books flew off the shelves everytime they entered the store, but I never took the time to look beyond the covers and see what people liked about her writing.

When I was given this book I dove right in and experienced my first Josephine Cox drama.  It was better than any drama I have watched on the TV.  I got to imagine what Ruth was like, and I really didn't like her.  From the beginning she wasn't my type of person.  Even when she told her story I couldn't understand why she treated her family the way she did.  Some people may have sympathy for her, but I struggled.  I see no right in taking your past and punishing others around you for it.

As for Cassey and the Grandfather, I fell in love with them.  They journeyed the pages of this novel together with such grace and beauty.  I just wanted to join their little nook and bake for them to make it all better.  That is where Dolly comes in.  She is such a dream and her wisdom is a joy.

The other characters I was able to give or take.  I enjoyed every bit of this book.  I will have to take a look into another one of Josephine's novels now... I think I'm hooked.

Description:

Eight-year-old Casey's mother Ruth is a cruel woman, with a weakness for other women's husbands.  Casey's father is gentle and hard-working and, though Tom Denton has long suspected his wife of having sordid affairs, he has chosen to turn a blind eye to keep the peace.  But then, out of the blue, Tom's world is cruelly shattered when he receives two bits of devastating news.  Because of this, Tom realises that from now on thier lives must chang, forever.

A broken man, Tom is made to fight for his son, determined to keep him safe.  But when fate takes a hand, life can be unbearably cruel, and Casey is made to remember is father's prophetic words...

'Its done.  The dice is thrown, and nobody wins.'

But, unbeknown to Casey, there are three letters penned by his father, that may jsut change his destiny forever.

This was available from most good bookstores, Fishpond, Book depository and Amazon

Be quiet

Remember,

all the answers you need are inside of you;

you only have to become quiet enough to hear them.

Debbie Ford

Hi Everyone,

I found this quote in my 'inbox' this morning, and thought I would share it with you.  I, for one, need to just be quiet for a little bit of time and listen.  The world is so noisy compared to when I was a child.

Who agrees?

If you want a quote sent to you each morning like this one.  Then head over to Goodreads and click on the quote of the day, then subscribe.  You receive an authors quote each morning.  Some are classics, some are new.
